Day 1: Backpackers begin their tour very early in Flagstaff, in order to arrive at the Hualapai Hilltop trailhead by approximately 9am. The 10.3 mile (16.6km) Havasupai Trail begins with a steep descent, but the majority is a reasonably gentle hike down through Esplanade and Wescogame sandstones on the way toward the Supai Village and Havasupai campground. The last several miles of the hike are along the lush riparian corridor of Havasu Creek, and the world-famous Havasu Falls come into view just before entering the campground. Note: There are restrooms located at the trailhead, Supai Village, and the campground.
Day 2:From the creekside campground, backpackers will have a number of options to choose from, including relaxing and swimming beneath Havasu Falls or Navajo Falls, or exploring Mooney Falls or Beaver Falls further downstream. Guests should note that exploration of Mooney Falls and all points downstream involves a white-knuckle, chain-grabbing, exposed, yet exciting climb down deeper into the Canyon. Ask your guide for more information.
Day 3: This additional day is almost always set aside for the strenuous 16 mile (26 km) round-trip day hike down Havasu Creek to its confluence with the Colorado River. The hike requires patience and numerous stream crossings, but participants are rewarded with an incredible sight of blue-green water flowing into the main river--taken in from a vantage point atop Muav Limestone ledges. Lunch will be served en route, and any daylight remaining after the return to camp can simply be spent relaxing, swimming, and enjoying the views.
Day 4:On this last day, backpackers enjoy another hearty breakfast before beginning their 10.3 mile (16.6km) return up the Havasupai Trail to Hualapai Hilltop. At the top, our groups relax near the trailhead and savor their accomplishments over a sandwich and cold refreshment.
